For decades, our development story has centered on minerals, agriculture, and wildlife tourism. Yet the future of sustainable growth may lie in the Blue Economy—an ecosystem that extends far beyond fishing to include maritime transport, offshore energy, LNG, marine tourism, ship repair, offshore logistics, and a wide range of maritime services.
In my latest article, I explore why Tanzania is uniquely positioned to become a leading maritime investment destination in Africa. I examine how our strategic location on the Indian Ocean, expanding port infrastructure, and abundant marine resources can drive economic transformation, create quality jobs, attract foreign investment, and strengthen regional trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
As an advocate practicing in International Trade and Maritime Law, I also highlight a critical reality: world-class infrastructure alone is not enough. Sustainable maritime investment depends on predictable laws, investor confidence, efficient institutions, and a legal environment that supports long-term growth.
The ocean is more than a natural resource—it is a strategic economic frontier. The question is whether we are prepared to harness its full potential.
I invite you to read the article and join the conversation on how Tanzania can unlock the opportunities of the Blue Economy for future generations.
